Ceremonial Grounds

HISTORY OF THE CEREMONIAL GROUNDS

In the 1970s, Bill Scott Sr., set aside this land for the community of White Mesa to have a ceremonial place. Over the years, many big ceremonies have been held there, and numerous people got their healing on the land.

THE HOUSE OF THE TWINS

In 2014, Patrick and his family started rebuilding the ceremonial grounds, building a new hogan known as The House Of The Twins, a tribute to his late father, Bill Scott Senior. A big snowstorm came through northern Arizona when Bill was a young boy. The snow prevented travel, and helicopters air-dropped food to remote areas. One of these air-drops landed on Bill's home and killed his mother and twin brother. From that time, his grandmother raised him. He went on to have 13 kids of his own.

LULA SCOTT COOKHOUSE

From start to finish, Lula Scott, Patrick's mother, would come every day to watch the construction of the House of the Twins. Construction of the Lula Scott Cookhouse started while she was still alive. During the finishing of the cookhouse, his mother passed, and they built the cookhouse in her honor.

Construction on the hogan and cookhouse is still in progress, but they still are used for ceremonies. Now people from all walks of life get help through the ceremonial hogan. Many big and small ceremonies have taken place here, and many people have healed through these ceremonies.

Patrick and his family have self-funded the Ceremonial Grounds, spending hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours in labor. Your donations will help complete this project and open it to the world! Due to the lack of funding, construction has halted.

FUTURE OF THE CEREMONIAL GROUNDS

We currently use the site to share, gather, and pray together. Events hosted include ceremonies, family gatherings, music therapy, drum sessions, and cultural days.

We want to open the ceremonial grounds to the world and welcome people to share their ways. In addition, renting out the ceremonial grounds to the public will generate funds to improve the site and create employment opportunities for the local community.

Your donations will help make this a lively ceremonial place!
